A month-long retreat gets you 15 close friends. A festival gets you 300 to 800 new contacts in a week.

That’s the trade. Festivals and conferences are the fastest way to find your people when you’re new to nomad life, or when you need clients, partners or advice right now.

You’ll meet founders who are a few years ahead of you and happy to say what worked. You’ll find a designer, a developer or a copywriter you can hire, or someone who wants to hire you. And you’ll run into the same faces again in Bansko, Chiang Mai or Cape Town the next year, which is how loose contacts turn into friends.

Most of these events are cheap. Tickets often run $100 to $300, and you book your own room. Many have an unconference, where attendees run sessions themselves, so you can give a talk on what you know and leave known for it.

For smaller group trips and colivings, see our companion guide for digital nomad retreats.

Nomad Summit (Chiang Mai, Thailand) event image

Nomad Summit has run since 2015 and is one of the oldest nomad conferences. The 2027 edition is in Chiang Mai from January 15 to 24.

Genki lists it as a conference plus a 48-hour buildathon and a community week, with 400+ people expected. The site describes the crowd as founders, freelancers and investors building businesses in Southeast Asia.

January is Chiang Mai’s cool, dry season. Many people come for the summit and stay a month or two, since the city is still one of the cheapest places to live well.

If you run a business, this is the Asia event to plan your year around. You’ll meet people building companies in the region, not just passing through.

  • Location: Chiang Mai, Thailand
  • Dates: Jan 15 to 24, 2027
  • Cost: tickets from €299. Housing extra.
  • Size: 400+ expected (Genki)
  • Crowd: founders, freelancers, investors and remote workers

Expect 200+ attendees, 30+ speakers and 50+ workshops across AI, business, lifestyle and sustainability. A coworking week runs February 22 to 25, with a full-day AI hackathon on the 24th.

The social calendar is packed: a yacht party, a braai, sunset hikes, a villa pool party and Dinner Roulette. A Social Impact Day and a local pitch competition raise money for the Nomad Africa Fund.

South Africans and other African nationals get almost 90% off the Standard Pass. That means more locals than at most nomad events, which helps if you want to do business on the continent.

  • Location: Cape Town, South Africa
  • Dates: Feb 17 to 26, 2027
  • Cost: Standard and Premium passes. Genki lists tickets from €299. Premium adds a Winelands weekend.

  • Crowd: nomads, founders, remote workers, beginners and local entrepreneurs

3. Italia Nomad Fest (Palermo, Sicily)

Italia Nomad Fest attendees gathered in a courtyard in Palermo

Italia Nomad Fest runs nine days in Palermo, based at Villa Niscemi. Most nomad festivals import a crowd. This one mixes it: Genki reports that about a third of the 200 people are Palermo locals.

The city council backs the event with venues and public transport. That gives you a route into local business and culture that’s hard to find as a tourist.

The program covers remote work, entrepreneurship and content creation. Around it are cultural tours, food experiences, a gala night with the Nomad Retreats Awards and a closing public DJ set.

Beet Community, Beetroot and Nomad Retreats run it. Early March in Sicily is mild and quiet, well before the summer crowds.

  • Location: Palermo, Sicily, Italy
  • Dates: Mar 6 to 14, 2027
  • Cost: Standard €350, Full €495 (adds gala dinner and premium activities). A 50% early bird brings them to €175 and €248.
  • Size: about 200
  • Crowd: nomads, founders, remote workers and Palermo locals

4. Nomad Basecamp (Kathmandu and Pokhara, Nepal)

Nomad Basecamp Nepal

Nomad Basecamp bills itself as Nepal’s first and largest digital nomad summit. The September 2026 edition ran a week at Bar Peepal Resort in Pokhara, and the next one moves to Kathmandu in early March 2027.

The week has five parts: the summit itself with keynotes, workshops and masterminds, a music festival, a wellness program, a Nepal Tech Startup Day and an adventure expedition. Japanese author Ken Honda who wrote the best-seller Happy Money, is listed as the headliner.

The 2026 edition drew 150+ people from 25+ countries, with 30+ speakers. The Nepal Tourism Board organized the 2025 edition.

If you want to stay on, the organizers run a 30-day coliving from $699. Nepal is cheap, the trekking is world-class, and March is a good month for clear mountain views.

  • Location: Kathmandu, Nepal (March 2027). Pokhara hosts the September edition.
  • Dates: early March 2027. Exact dates go to the waitlist first.
  • Cost: 2027 pass price not published. 2026 super early-bird passes started at $199, half the regular price. Housing, meals and transport extra.
  • Size: 150+ in 2026

The crowd leans toward people selling online services: coaches, consultants, freelancers and content creators. If that’s your business, the room is full of potential partners and peers.

Dimitris Tselios (Nomad365) and Markos Korvesis (Nomad Career) run it. And yes, there’s a pickleball tournament.

  • Location: Da Nang, Vietnam

Mornings are for coworking. Then come keynotes, panels and workshops on remote work, tech and building a business in Latin America.

The format is four days: two days of pre-conference trips around Izmir, then two days of sessions, then hosted trips around Türkiye for creators who sign up.

Tourism boards, PR agencies and travel brands come to meet creators. That’s the real value if you earn money from travel content, since the deals and press trips start here.

NomadÉire is a conference and festival week in Ireland. The 2026 edition ran in September in counties Kildare and Laois, with the conference on September 1 to 3, and the site cites about 400 attendees.

The week has three strands. The conference covers talks, workshops, masterminds and facilitated networking. A travel strand takes people to castles, coastlines and storytelling walks.

The third strand, Love Éire, is social: music, shared meals and matchmaking events. It’s one of the few nomad festivals that openly helps people meet a partner, not just a business contact.

Ireland is English-speaking and a short flight from most of Europe, which makes it an easy first nomad festival.

  • Location: Ireland (2026 edition in Kildare and Laois)
  • Dates: to be announced. The 2026 conference ran Sep 1 to 3.
  • Cost: not listed on the site
  • Size: about 400
  • Crowd: location-independent professionals, many from the US and Europe

Why festivals keep nomads on the road

The first festival is the hardest when you arrive alone but you’ll probably leave with a group chat of 40 people.

By the second or third, it feels like a reunion. You see the friend from Bansko again in Chiang Mai. The founder you met in Cape Town has a client to send your way. Someone who’s been doing this for a decade tells you over dinner which tax setup to avoid, how to better market your business and how they stopped burning out.

That’s what makes nomad life last. Not the beaches or the exotic locations. The people you can text in almost any city and the experienced nomads who keep you from repeating their mistakes.

Pick one festival from the first half of 2027 and book the ticket while early-bird prices last. Then pick a retreat to go deeper with a smaller group and you’ll enjoy the digital nomad lifestyle a lot more.
